In the middle of 20^th Century, some energetic young devotees of Krishnanagar, most of who were initiated by Param Pujaniya Sreemat Swami Shivanandaji Maharaj (familiar with Mahapurush Maharaj in Ramakrishna Order) felt to institute an Association in the name of SriRamakrishna.

The main objects behind the thinking of formation of Association were (i) to impart and promote the study of the Vedanta with its principles as propounded by Sri Ramakrishna. (ii) to impart and promote the study of the Arts, Science & Industries. (iii) to carry on educational works among the masses. (iv) to establish or assist Schools, Colleges, Orphanages, Students’ Homes, Reformatory Homes, Maternity Homes, Refuge Homes etc. (v) to organize Relief Works in any kind of natural calamities. (vi) to publish as well as distribute the Journals, Periodicals, Books, Leaflets etc. which deemed fit to promote the objects of the Association.

As there was no such philanthropic organization in the name of SriRamakrishna-Vivekananda in Nadia District upto the middle of the 20^th century, the aforesaid young devotees directly approached Maharani Jyotirmoyee Debi, the then Maharani of Nadia & the succeeder of Raja Krishna Chandra towards fulfilling their aspiration. Maharani Jyotirmoyee Debi was also the disciple of Param Pujaniya Mahapurush Maharaj. 

Being satisfied with the objects of the Association, Maharani Jyotirmoyee Debi donated 1½ (One and half) Bighas of land in the heart of Krishnanagar to form the Association in the name of Sri Ramakrishna. Accordingly it was decided that the name of the Association would be the ‘Ramakrishna Ashrama’. 

On an auspicious occasion of Shiva Chaturdashi, the Holy Shrine of Ramakrishna Ashrama was inaugurated on 27^th February, 1957 by Param Pujyaniya Sreemat Swami Vishuddhanandaji Maharaj, the then Vice-President of Ramakrishna Order (later 8^th President of the Ramakrishna Order) in presence of Pujaniya Sw. Vimuktanandaji, Sw.Kshamanandaji, Sw.Virajatmanandaji Maharaj & Brahm. Keshab Maharaj. Param Pujaniya Vishuddhanandaji Maharaj placed three photos of the Holy Trios (SriSri Thakur, SriSri Maa & Swamiji Maharaj) by his own lotus hand on that very auspicious day amidst of Puja, Homa, Hymns in presence of mass devotees. Param Pujaniya Maharaj celebrated Grand Shiva Chaturdashi at night in the Ashrama premises.

Apart from regular visit of various Monks of Ramakrishna Math & Mission centers, Param Pujaniya Sreemat Swami Ranganathanandaji Maharaj, Swami Gahananandaji Maharaj, Swami Geetanandaji Maharaj & Swami Vagishanandaji Maharaj have enriched the devotional atmosphere of this Ashrama. 

Continuous efforts of the devotees and admirers since last two decades to hand over this Ashrama to the Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, the said Ashrama has recently been taken over as a Branch Centre by Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math on 24^th October, 2021. The name of Ramakrishna Ashrama has been turned into “Ramakrishna Mission, Krishnanagar”

The present activities of Ramakrishna Mission, Krishnanagar are as follows :-

1.Charitable Dispensary with free distribution of medicines.

 2.Ambulance service with Oxygen facility.

3. Free Students’ Hostel.

 4.Periodical conduct the Value Orientation with Cultural Programme among the youth. 

5.Daily Puja, readings from Holy Books, Devotional Songs etc. apart from grand  

            celebration of Tithi Puja of Holy Trios.

Gradually the activities of Ramakrishna Mission, Krishnanagar have been expanding in various wings.
